: I was told that the Russian language was a latin based language. True or untrue? Could you tell me where to research to get a solid answer on this, with sources to back up the research. Thanks FIC, Katie S

Katie,

Russian is not a Latin based language (such as French, Italien or Spanish, which are Romanic languages).

Russian is member of the Indoeuropean language family which comprise the Romanic languages, Germanic languages, and Slavic languages. Russian
belongs to the Slavic group, more precisely to the East Slavic branch.

Hope that answers your question. For more resources, please check
