I stayed in www.cheap-moscow.com/basement.htm and loved it, and believe nothing cheaper can be found in the core area of Moscow. In fact the closest alternative was $20 room in the outskirts, or bunk bed in a room with six for $15. Lots of other good offers on that site. Don't be put off by its aggressively unprofessional appearance.
