General Information

The Faculty of Foreign Languages was established in 1988 on the basis of University departments of foreign language teaching. Approximately 200 professors, assistant professors and highly qualified teachers work here. Scientific research covers a wide range of issues of cross-cultural communication, and the interaction of language and society. The study of languages of Western and Eastern Europe within the sociocultural context is conducted in three directions:

  • Applied Linguistics (linguodidactics and methods of teaching foreign languages includes Russian as a foreign language, comparative study of languages, theory of translation, monolingual and bilingual terminology and terminography)
  • Theory of Speech Communication (general and practical rhetoric, language of mass media, textology of intellective communication, communication and marketing)
  • Cultural Studies (history of culture, cultural anthropology, applied cultural studies)
